Dekko Grant Appreciation
Mayor - Douglas Foster on May 07, 2026
Letter to the Editor - Lamoni Chronicle
The city of Lamoni would like to express its appreciation to the AmeriCorps Youth Outreach Fund for again providing a grant for pool passes and swimming lessons for families who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford them. Anyone who qualifies can apply for their children’s passes at City Hall during regular business hours.
For many families, the cost of pool access or lessons can be a real barrier for their children to enjoy our community swimming pool. By removing that obstacle, AmeriCorps is ensuring that every child has the chance to learn essential water safety skills and experience the physical and social benefits of swimming. In a rural community like ours, where recreational opportunities can be limited, this program will make a meaningful difference.
This is more than just a financial boost — it’s an investment in community health, safety, and inclusion. This grant also reflects a broader commitment to equity. When all children, regardless of income, can participate in the same activities, it strengthens our sense of community and gives every young person a chance to thrive.
This is just another example of our local partners stepping up for the community. A special thank you to AmeriCorps Youth, and everyone involved in securing this funding. It is encouraging to see proactive steps that support families and promote well being across our community. We look forward to seeing everyone at the Lamoni Municipal Pool this Summer!
The City of Lamoni,
Douglas Foster
Mayor
