Lamoni Welcomes McBee Meat Company

August 18, 2023

McBee Meat Company took over the former Red Barn Meat Market facility in Lamoni on June 19th. According to owner / operator Steven McBee's Instagram account - They weren't necessarily looking to purchase a new site, but the opportunity came up and was "too good to pass up".

"This was great news for Lamoni because the facility would continue to operate and will even expand operations in the near future", Lamoni Mayor Doug Foster said. Services currently provided are the processing of beef, bison, deer, lamb, goats, and pork. The locker is a full end-to-end meat processing plant located at 2190 East Main, just west of the interstate exchange at Exit 4 in Lamoni.

McBee may be a new name to Lamoni, but it's not a new name in ag related industry. McBee Farm & Cattle Co, located in Gallatin, MO consists of over 40,000 acres. They currently grow corn and soybeans on their row crop ground as well as raising many different breeds of livestock including registered Charolais, commercial Angus, longhorns, and bison. In addition to agriculture.

The McBee family also owns a chain of 7 carwashes throughout the Midwest called McBee's Coffee N Carwash. Their mission is to make every customer feel valued by providing the highest quality wash, state-of-the-art stainless steel Wash N' Wag Dog Wash, free vacuums after every wash, and business programs for your whole fleet.

At the moment, they have 7 carwashes up and running throughout Missouri and Arkansas with more currently under construction. Their newest venture is currently APEX Protein Snacks, which is backcountry jerky and meat sticks. The idea for Apex Protein Snacks was conceived in the backcountry of the North Brooks Range, Alaska - 150 miles from the nearest civilization. It was there while eating a normal convenience store snack stick, and diving into the nutritional aspects of it out of boredom, that the McBee's realized the need for minimally processed - highly nutritious meat snack product in the outdoor marketplace.

Though the retail area isn't open currently, the plan is to have it fully operational in the near future. The new signage is up on the front of the meat market, making a great statement at the entrance of the community from the interstate at Exit 4.

"One of several new businesses added in the last few years... the new branding really pops", said City Administrator Barb Stuck. "It's a really attractive business at the East entrance to the City. We're thrilled to have McBee Meat Company in town."
