The 12th Annual Bethany's Race

May 09, 2024

Sixty-nine people registered for the 12th Annual Bethany’s Race/Walk – 5K. Most participants turned out in spite of the early morning rain and questionable forecast the morning of May 4th. There was a lot of purple taking over the community center parking lot; the location of the start of the race (tie-dyed purple - this year’s t-shirt color).

Bethany Gruich was a beloved member of the community who was diagnosed with glioblastoma (a rare brain cancer) in October of 2012 just shy of her 16th birthday. The community surrounded the Gruich family with love to raise funds for her support and the race was born. Gruich succumbed to this awful disease shortly after her 18th birthday.

The race continues to raise funds to provide a scholarship to a Lamoni High School graduate in Bethany’s name. Thank you to this years’ MC – Peggy Henson for agreeing to announce the race and give the invocation. Thank you to all who participated to keep this scholarship going in Bethany’s honor.
