The completion of the new Lamoni Municipal Airport taxiway is a significant improvement for airport services in the Southern Iowa-Northern Missouri region. With the new taxiway access to larger hangar space, the airport is now a more attractive option for regional companies with corporate aircraft and creates additional economic opportunities for local businesses, and hopefully new businesses.  Airplane owners and businesses in the region can now take advantage of long-term, safe, and convenient storage options for their corporate or business aircraft.

"Lamoni is fortunate to have this six-bay hangar with 60-foot doors which allows for the housing of twin-engine airplanes and planes with larger wing spans," City Council airport liaison Tony Crandell said.  "There are very few airports in our area that have hangars with that capability."  This is a unique capability in the region, and it positions the Lamoni Municipal Airport to present an attractive incentive for businesses to locate here.  The completion of this project translates into improved convenience for these business tenants. With the availability of the new hangars, these business aircraft owners can now have their planes stored in a secure and easily accessible location.

The particular taxiway expansion opens access to three newly constructed hangars which were built for business class airplane storage, but were not accessible. With the completion of the taxiway, these additional spaces will drive increased revenue generation. The newly available hangar access will also raise annual rental fees from $1,000 to $2,000 for each hangar.  The annual hangar rents collectively are a large portion of the airport’s annual maintenance budget.

There is a demand for even more hangar space and the Airport Commission has submitted a grant application to the Iowa Department of Transportation to fund an additional business class hangar.

"The completion of the Lamoni Municipal Airport's expansion project brings a wide range of benefits for the Southern Iowa-Northern Missouri Region," said Mayor Doug Foster.  "The Lamoni Municipal Airport is poised to play a crucial role in airport services and travel in the region for years to come.”
